The following was a brief segment from a radio show Shawn Stevens did during his media week. Since it is from the radio it is just audio.
Host: Welcome back listeners, I am Tony Jansen you are listening to WROX. Up now, we have a special guest. Some of you may know him, some may not. Or maybe you know his brother, Jay T. Nitro. But in any case he is the midwest's own Power On Wrestling Midwestern Heavyweight Champion, Shawn Stevens. Now Shawn welcome to the show.
Shawn: Happy to stop by.
Tony: Now I hear this is your media week to promote POW, what made that happen this week? Don't you people usually do media spots to promote big events?
Shawn: See Tony, in POW every event is a big event. Especially with the name Shawn Stevens on the card. Capaci has me running around because I'm the champion. He wants to spread the word even further that POW is the best set of wrestling promotions in North America, and possibly the world. I left the Andy in the Afternoon show to drive three hours to do this show. And I still have a press conference lined up for the day before the show I am main eventing. It's a lot of work, but one can't expect any less from a champion. Especially a champion that is just simply Sensational....
Jansen laughs.
Tony: Well I guess the old adage is true by stepping forward with your strongest foot...or something like that. In any case Shawn. What is competing like for thousands of people every week?
Shawn: It's the greatest experience in the world. I not only work for POW but I recently inked a contract to work with the Universal Wrestling League once more and I have just recieved a draft of a contract from Old Line Wrestling to work there over the summer, but I'm not sure if I can make it so I may find a representative to send instead.
Tony: Well aren't you Mr. Popular. Two companies and one more wants you?
Shawn: I actually receive quite a few e-mails, calls, and letters every week from up and coming promotions looking to sway me to leave POW and UWL and work for them instead. It's the curse of being a major star. But Tito Capaci and Jay Jefferson know I won't leave them. And OLW added to the contract I will be able to continue to work in both companies and the dates will not overlap. It will be tiring but like I said. Putting on four and five star matches on a regular basis is my life, and the more I can do the better.
Tony: Well back to POW, with the recent buyout of UWC, POW has opted to continue the Supermania tradition and put the show on featuring many title unification matches for the UWC champions vs. POW's own champions. That puts you into a position with having to face Dave Hunter shortly, and with a short time until then you have a major challenge in JR Zevon who is the Eastern Heavyweight Champion of POW's sister territory New England. How could you even consider competing in more companies with a schedule such as that in just one?
Shawn: Simple like I said before, I am simply Sensational.
Triple S laughs.
Shawn: Honestly, I said it earlier. Competing is like a drug. I can't get enough of it. I just got the only major thorn in my side to leave me alone once and for all. Now that that punk is gone I can focus once more on being the best. And the only way to do that is to compete against the best. JR Zevon came to OUR territory and wanted to face ME. Not the other way around. He thinks he has the fortitude to come into someone else's house and beat them. I admire his courage and arrogance. He reminds me of me, but when it comes down to it. I have held my title for months, he has barely had his for weeks. I don't want to make any POW territory look bad, be it Midwest by losing or New England by winning....but there really isn't another option. This week one of the POW territories will step up and be the shining star of POW. Zevon is coming in as the outsider to my home and I have to say that's just another disadvantage of his.
Tony: So you're confident that you'll win?
Shawn: I usually am Tony. That's how I got to my position in this business. The moment I lack confidence I start losing. It's the mental status one must maintain. If you think you can, then you can. But the moment you start to doubt yourself, might as well just pack your bags.
Tony: Ok Shawn, we need to take a break and play some music. And hear from our wonderful sponsors. But any callers have any questions for Shawn Stevens. Call now and we will get to you after this break. The number is 555-9769. I'm Tony Jansen and you're listening to WROX where the rock don't stop.
End of segment.
