This episode begins deep down in the darkness of the Ninjas Lair. We find our hero - Reid Flanagan sitting on an old steel folding chair staring at an object laying on his card table... That object - the object that had been driving him to madness for the past 7 months... That object was now mere inches from him - The Midwestern Heavyweight Championship belt. Reck takes a ragged breath runs his fingers through his long brown hair.
Reid - I... still can't believe it... It's been nearly a week since Legendaria and I'm still in shock... I did what no one... NO ONE, in this promotion was able to do - I defeated Shawn Stevens and won the Midwest Championship - It's mine... I actually did it... This has got to be a dream...
It's not...
Reid turns his head to the right to see his partner and perhaps his closest friend - Jayde Nightwood slowly approaching him. Her ribs are still taped, a bandage over her left cheek and her right arm is in a sling - All those were given to her The Green Ranger... The images of seeing her being struck down by the Dark Hellfriede Blade still run through his head so he shakes it... trying to clear the horrendous images out. Jayde pulls over another chair and sits down beside him.
Jayde - I'm proud of you Reck. Winning that title was one of the greatest things I ever witnessed.
A smile briefly comes across his face but it doesn't last long.
Reid - Yeah... It was a hell of a moment but I couldn't celebrate knowing... that I couldn't protect you from The Green Ranger.
Jayde grins a bit here and places her hand on his shoulder.
Jayde - It's not your fault, he got lucky - That's all.
Reid - No... I should have done something... ANYTHING - but I didn't, I stood there like a jackass and let him almost... What kind of a hero am I...?
Jayde - Reid...
Reid looks up at Jayde... It's not very often she calls him by his real name. He looks right into her emerald green eyes - he had forgotten how soothing they were.
Jayde - Your a great hero... you have made thousands of people believe that they can do anything by standing up to everything that tries to keep them down. No matter the odds you walked into battle with your head high and no fear in your eyes. You always fight for what you believe is right... Nothing defines a hero more then that. So I got banged up a bit? I'm still alive, I'm here and we'll get him next time.
The smile slowly reappears on Reid's face.
Reid - Thanks...
Jayde smiles and takes Reid's hand in her own.
Jayde - Hey... We are always there for each other right! One thing that has been bothering me is what were you doing outside my hotel room last week?
Reid looks down to the floor for a moment, trying to find the words.
Reid - I came... to apologize to you Jayde... The last couple months... Since I've met Rei, I felt... a rift form between us - After all you've done for me the last couple years, I shouldn't have... I can't even describe it..
Jayde's eyes also gaze down to the hard concrete floor.
Jayde - I want to apologize as well...
Reid looks at her a little confused.
Reid - Huh? Why would you need to apologize? I was the one that...
Jayde - No... It's my fault, I flipped out at you when you starting hanging with Reiko because... well - I'm a little embarrassed to say this but - I was jealous of her.
Reid carefully places his hand on top of hers. Jayde looks at their hands then up at Reid.
Reid - Jayde... You had no reason to be jealous of her. She a good friend and my manager, that is all.
Jayde - I know... but I couldn't help myself.
The just stare at each other for a couple moments... a couple moments of awkward silence.
Reid - Jayde, I...
Jayde - What is it...?
Reid is trying to find the words... He suddenly bursts off his seat and walks over to the table which sits his belt. He grabs it in his hands, he doesn't look back at Jayde as he finishes his next sentence.
Reid - I have to go Jayde... I got a big tag match coming up later and I have to go find Ci... talk strategy - I'll talk to you later okay.
Jayde could tell by Reid's tone that what came out of his mouth wasn't what we originally intended to say. She watched him walk to the exit. He placed his hand on the door to push it open.
Jayde - Hey Reck!
Reid stops but again doesn't look back.
Jayde - Good luck... Champ!
She sees his hand tremble sightly, then ball into a fist as he pushes the door open and walks out. She lets out a ragged breath of her own and slowly stands up and limps over to the table were the belt had been. She looked down at it and placed her hand at the table, then turned her attention to door.
Jayde - ... Good luck...
