The scene opens in the parking lot of the Michaels Eighth Avenue Ballroom. It’s raining in Glen Burnie, Maryland. An eerie fog lingers in the air as the constant shower rains down on the arena. A flash of lightning lightens up the scene and shows Buddy’s Winnebago parked. It is dark, except for a dim, bluish light from one of the windows. It is quiet, not the usual sounds of a party, or blaring music, or shouts of a lady being pleased. The camera moves in closer and cracks open the door to the Winnebago.
Inside the Winnebago, dozens of beer bottles are spewed across the floor. Cigarette butts litter the blue carpet along with the beer bottles. The camera creeps upward, showing Buddy Love slouching on his couch, smoking a cigarette, drinking a beer, and twiddling with a game controller. Buddy’s face is grim-looking and cold as stone; instead of the smiling and ready for fun face. He takes a drag on the cig and a sip of his beer before going back to the controller. Big Norm steps into the room and stares over at Buddy.
“Buddy, it’s three in the freaking morning….. Cut that damn thing off would yah?” Big Norm barks.
“Na dude……” Buddy grimly replies.
“What’s the matter? You aren’t getting into Nerd’s head are you? Because this really isn’t nerdy sucka.” Big Norm barks.
“Dude, at the moment, my match with Gamer Nerd is the last thing in my mind. We are in sports entertainment at its finest buddy. Every night, I want to give the fans the best show I can. This show is for the fans because they can forget the crap they deal with during their normal day, but at this moment, life has different plans. I don’t feel like the entertainer right now, and I’m sure a lot of fans are in the mood to be entertained.” Buddy replies.
“But dude…..” Norm starts.
“Wrestling is an escape from reality, much like video games are. I love my video games, almost as much as I love women. In video games, you can do what you can’t do in life. In Madden, you can play with the Washington Redskins. In NBA Live, you can play with Gilbert Arenas and the Wizards. In MLB the Show, you can play with the stars like A-Rod, Big Papa, Bonds, or the Washington Nationals. In NASCAR, you can race with Jeff Gordon. And in Raw vs. Smackdown, you can fight against the big dogs of the business. But over the last two days, a sad fact has stuck into my head. I will never get the opportunity to be in the ring with an idol of mine. The one man that got me inspired to get into this business. My hero….” Buddy states.
“What happened?” Norm asks.
“I don’t think we will ever know…… all I know is a great wrestler is gone. I may have the Gamer Nerd on Sunday, and he’ll have army of nerds behind him, but I’ll never have my time in the ring with the one true man I wanted to go toe-to-toe with. I think we all have that hero we look up to…….”
“Hell yeah……. Snoop Dogg sucka!” Big Norm shouts.
“Yes…… yes….. Snoop Dogg…… But for me, I don’t have my hero to look up to anymore. All I have is this video game, and you know what? He wins every time…..” Buddy sets the controller down and heads off to his bedroom.
The TV continues to blares the match Buddy was in. The only sound in the air is………
Ding…………
