BLAM! Our hero Reck Maverick smashes through a wooden board with a Liu Kang Caliber flying kick. He lands, turns and slashes his Blade of Legend through another board. He drops to one knee as he sheathes the blade.
Jayde - and... TIME! Good job Reck, that's your best time yet. You almost gave me the impress that you were actually trying this time!
Maverick gives her the trademark thumbs up.
Reck Maverick - I always try Jayde. You can't coast on your credentials, that's not the way of the ninja or of the hero or even a middle-class CEO.
Reck's focus turns to a cleverly hidden camera peeking out of a small hole in the wall.
Reck Maverick - Should that camera be there...
Jayde - I noticed it too. Don't worry about it Reck, odds are they came from either Jason or Cran. Master Kiyoshi will likely flip when he sees the hole they made, but until may as well let them stay. We are finished for now... *Snaps her camera towards the camera.* SO YOU'RE JUST WASTING FILM!
An audible "God Damn it!" is heard outside the wall. Jayde chuckles at the camera man's misfortune. She turns her attention to Reck Maverick who is staring at the ground with a blank expression. Jayde gives out a low sigh.
Jayde - What's wrong now?
Reck snaps out of the trance he was in and looks at his partner.
Reck Maverick - What? Oh, nothing... I'm going to go meditate for a while.
Jayde - Since when do you meditate?
Reck Maverick - Since now... I'll be back later. Sayanora.
Reck walks past Jayde while untying his headband.
Later... in Kelley Park.
Reck - now dressed in casual clothes as to not attract the attention of outsiders - sits under an old tree. He closes his eyes (or at least we think he does, it's hard to tell with those sunglasses he's wearing. He let's his mind wander.
Reck Maverick - Why does this Cran Landom guy bother me so much... he IS just a nut... isn't he?
Reck Maverick drifts into a dream state and...
Cue cheesy flash-back effects!
We are in a City... There is no recognizable landmarks so we don't know where exactly. The place is in ruins... We appear to be in the middle of a WAR! There are soldiers running everywhere, bullets are flying and explosions are going off. We shift our focus up wards as we see two shadow running along the rooftops. One appears to be Reck Maverick - except he is visibly younger, he appears to be a teenager. His usually long hair is pretty short now. We do not recognize the other ninja - but judging from his uniform, he is a higher ranked member of Maverick's clan. They stop at the edge of a building and survey the damage.
Ninja - Hm... We need to continue north...
Reck Maverick - Hey, Bradham... Can I know what the mission is now?
The ninja - now know as "Bradham" looks at his "partner"
Bradham - Heh... leave it to the Grand Master to partner me up with the rookie. Look... What was your name?
Reck Maverick - ...Maverick
Bradham - Weird handle... Anyway Maverick Do you see those guys in blue down there...
Reck nods.
Bradham - Their government hired our clan to take out the leaders of their enemy. So we have to invade their compound and take the leaders out. Got it?
Reck Maverick - Yep, I got it.
The pair continue on their journey, completely unobserved by the soldiers below. About an hour later they arrive at the HQ of their targets.
Because of their mad ninja skills they have no problems infiltrating the stronghold. The make it to just outside the command center and they notice two guards blocking the way in. Reck pulls out his twin sais and is about to go after the guards but Bradham pulls him back.
Bradham - Stay here Kid, I'll handle this.
Bradham draws his sword and throws a smoke bomb in front of the guards and he dashes in - Two Swings and it's over (Let's leave the gory details to your imagination.) Maverick runs up beside Bradham
Bradham - Okay... Now we just need to take out the guys inside. Intel said the there is 4 of them... 2 for you, 2 for me. Unfortunately since this door is the only entrance, the element of surprise is not on our side. So strike hard, strike fast and remember EVERYTHING Master Kiyoshi taught you... Are you ready?
Reck - although insecure - nods...
Bradham - Right! Let's go!
The duo busts into the room - They never had a chance... Such a sad waste of life - but a mission is a mission.
Bradham - Good going Maverick... Wait! Sh*t someone's coming - HIDE!
They dive into the shadows... as about 3 soldiers charge into the room... These are the guys Maverick and Bradham were working for... but since the Government were nice enough to NOT tell them about the Ninjas they were still hostile. They scan the room and notice that their enemies were toast. One of them get on the radio.
Soldier - Sir, the enemy is dead! No, I don't know how sir. Rodger, returning to base...
CRACK! Bradham accidentally stepped on a loose board and all three soldiers turned their attentions to the Ninja. Knowing that talking won't help anything. Bradham immediately is on the attack. He puts up a hell of a fight against two of them but the third sneaks up from behind and BLAM... Shoots Bradham in the back. Maverick watches from his hiding place - he WANTS to help his partner but the code of the Ninja was to never reveal yourself even at the expense of your fellow Ninja. Instead he listens to the soldiers.
Soldier - Nice shot Sargent Landom... What was a ninja doing here anyway?
Indeed - it was Cran Landom himself that pulled the trigger. He and his men quickly leave and Reck Maverick runs from the shadows and to his partners side.
Reck Maverick - BRADHAM! Come on! You got to be alive...
Bradham coughs up blood. He looks at Reck Maverick, the life is slowly draining from his body.
Bradham - It's no use... I'm lung-shot. I wouldn't make it out of the building... Go Maverick, tell the Grand Master that we were successful and... take this.
He hands Reck his sword. Maverick looks at the sheath - engraved on it is "Blade of Legend." Suddenly Bradham goes limp, he is dead. Tears in his eyes - Maverick lays his... friend down and heads out.
The present.
Reck's eyes fly open... he now knows why Cran Landom seemed so familiar. He stands up and begins to walk back towards the dojo... Finally the mystery is revealed - Yet Reck Maverick feels no anger towards his upcoming opponent... Bradham was doing his job and so was Landom... The thing that bothers Reck now is how come he couldn't remember that event until now?
He begins to pick up speed, he needs to get ready - the flight to Kansas City takes off tonight.
