The scene opens up outside the 18th and Brooklyn in Kansas City, the site of the “Kansas City Tradition” Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque restaurant and considered by many the most famous barbeque restaurant in the United States. A commotion of people are situated at the doors of the restaurant, all of their eyes facing a podium erected at the entrance and a microphone stand situated in the centre. The group of people are soon recognized as a bunch of Kansas City media representatives, former UWL interviewer Kip Anderson is standing in the back of the group surprisingly along with the presence of the current Power On Wrestling interviewer, Greg Kilgreen.
Before the reason for the presence of a POW representative can be made clear two men have exited the doors of the Arthur Bryant’s restaurant and have made their way to the podium and the microphone. The two current owners of Arthur Bryant’s, Gary Berbiglia and Bill Rauschelbach, pull notes from their pockets before testing the microphone for activity.
Tap...Tap, echoes from twin speaker at the base of the podium as Gary Berbiglia drums his fingertips on the head of the microphone.
Gary: Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, I on behalf of Arthur Bryant’s and the other individuals present today would like to thank you for giving up your time here today.
A small praise of applause comes from the media before they ready their recording equipment for what ever story may come from this meeting.
Gary: Now as you may be very aware of, Bill Rauschelbach and myself were the men that brought the Arthur Bryant’s barbeque taste to both the Kansas Speedway and the Ameristar Casino. Now with the same connection in mind of getting our name to further audiences, we are taking the Arthur Bryant’s name into the world of professional wrestling.
Bill: Now I don’t want you to get the wrong idea, we’re not thinking of actually entering between the ropes in competition nor the creation of our own promotion. No that would be too dangerous for our likings…
A small laugh rises through the crowd of media. Bill Rauschelbach smiles around the crowd before looking down at his cue cards in the palm of his hand.
Bill: Instead we look for the sponsorship of a select few in the wrestling industry, so with their successes in the ring they carry the name of Arthur Bryant’s along side them. With the connection we now have with the Ameristar Casino and our restaurant constructed there, we have awoken our eyes to a wrestling promotion by the name of Power On Wrestling.
Gary: What more of a mouth watering connection can you think of than watching wrestling and eating some Arthur Bryant’s BBQ, this is what a contracted manager from that such wrestling promotion had said as he sat in meetings with the two of us. What can I say other than the man one over the two of us, so without further a due let me introduce to you the man that has won the sponsorships of Arthur Bryant’s….POWs very own Riley.
Greg Kilgreen points to the POW camera to start rolling as his own jaw is dropped to a considerable level in shock, not even he had known of this alliance. The POW manager and the self proclaimed “manager of champions” Riley, makes his way from the doors of Arthur Bryant’s to the podium to lock into a pair of handshakes with the owners of the restaurant. A couple of clicks and flashes from cameras later and Riley is standing alone on the podium facing the group of media in what is his casual choice of clothing, a formal dark blue suit.
Riley: Firstly I would like to thank the Arthur Bryant’s restaurants for giving myself and my client the sponsorship which we were in deer need off. Ya see this time last week it came to my attention that the owner of POW was giving each and every member of his roster little but a month to find accommodation in Kansas City. Now I don’t carry my home around with me nor do I have the money to go out and find myself accommodation, in fact the payment myself and my client receive per match alone is enough to supply us with our transportation and food needed for survival.
So last week when Kip Anderson, a old colleague of mine, asked me what I attended to do about this situation I said to myself, “Riley, if any other sports personality can do it. Then why cant a wrestler in Kansas City do the same”. Of course I was thinking about the act of sponsorship, that beam of light from the heavens that can help many people to greatness. Of course I asked many companies to give us a chance, but none would even hear a bar of it until I came to this very restaurant you see behind me today.
Riley points the logo on the doors of the Arthur Bryant’s BBQ restaurants.
Riley: Through these doors I found two men that could understand the promotional opportunity that sponsoring my client could offer their business. They new that the opportunity for the Arthur Bryant’s logo to be waved around and event in the Ameristar Casino would mean business for their restaurant which is located within walking distance. The taste buds of the POW fans shall be drooling at the thought of the BBQ foods waiting for them down at Arthur Bryant’s.
So it is that today, we announce the sponsorship in which Arthur Bryant’s has granted my client allowing him to find accommodation somewhere in this great city known as Kansas. Without further discussion, let me introduce to ya my client…the Undefeated Legion Soldier, Appius Macros Vitruvious!!!
The doors to the Arthur Bryant’s restaurant opens once more as this time POW wrestler known most notably as just Macros exits towards the podium, he is dressed in a pair of black board shorts and a modified version of his classic “submission wrestling at it‘s finest t-shirt” with both the POW and Arthur Bryant’s logo printed on the base of the back of the shirt. Macros’ notable theme songs composed by Hans Zimmer now flows from the speakers as Gary Berbiglia and Bill Rauschelbach join in with the applause from the small pack of media. The manager of the wrestler smiles broadly in his shell of confidence as he instructs his wrestler to do various poses for the media personnel.
Ten minutes later and the leave of the media hoard, POW interviewer Greg Kilgreen and his interviewing team are finally able to make their way towards the owners of Arthur Bryant’s and POW contact holder Macros and Riley.
Greg Kilgreen: Congratulations are in order Riley, you could not of found a more deserving business for sponsorship than Kansas Cities very own Arthur Bryant’s.
Riley turns from his discussion with the now sponsors of his client Macros Vitruvious, he looks at Greg with that same shell of confidence surrounding him.
Riley: Thanks Greg, ya know I may not have the cash like Shawn Stevens and Rich Morrison nor do I have the business skills of Tito Capaci…but when it comes the time to scratch up a living ya can bet your house on it that I, Riley will be leading the pack towards survival. That’s what makes me stand out from any other individual, I have the wit and cunning to make something good from a dreadful situation. When I heard of POW cutting the fund for accommodation I decided to do something about it, I got my client a sponsorship deal with Gary and Bill from Arthur Bryant’s to cover our expenses for accommodation.
Riley acknowledges the presence of his now sponsors with a gesture of the arm before turning back to interviewer Greg Kilgreen.
Greg Kilgreen: More likely an intelligent choice of sponsors in the form of one of Kansas Cities more famous restaurants, as I believe the sponsorship of your client will be beneficial for them also.
Riley: Of course it will benefit both parties in this alliance, soon you will be hearing what is considered the best BBQ food in the USA in the same sentence as the man who will soon be named the best wrestler in Kansas City, my client Macros. Ya see Greg it soon will be common knowledge that when a man thinks of Arthur Bryant's he thinks of my client and vice versa.
Ya see Greg we don't just get our sponsorship for free, whenever we walk to the ring from now on we shall be walking with the logo of Arthur Bryant's printed on our shirts. When the fans see us walking to the ring with the Arthur Bryant's logo flashing on our shirts their taste buds are going to make their minds wander to the fabulous food that will be cooking in the Ameristar Casinos' version of Arthur Bryant's. So after they see the fabulous action from my client in the POW ring they wont be able to help themselves but wander down to our sponsors and get themselves some great food.
Greg Kilgreen: On the subject of your client, last week Macros was able to secure himself a win over his soon to be tag team partner the Atomic Ninja, Reck Maverick. Now to feel in your sponsors who may not be aware, your client and this Reck Maverick actually intend to compete in the POW both in singles and tag team competition.
Riley puts his hand on the shoulder of his client and pulls him closer to his side and the camera.
Riley: Now as ya already know my client is undefeated in his single career both in POW and all round, unfortunately I can not say the same for my clients record in tag team action. Unfortunately it seemed that in the past there seemed to be some tag team partners that were destined to never show up to events or have little yet know wrestling skill at all, hence leaving the match to be basically an handicap match leaving my client to only take a beating.
Ya see this time it is different, this time I have decided to screw the way of the promoter. I am fed up with the low life talent in which my client is handed when given a tag team match, so I went on a recruitment mission of my own. Rumors were running wild, what man of muscularity or fear would I choose to tag along side Macros Vitruvious, what former 10 time World Champion would I choose for a tag team reign along side my client? I did my research, I searched not only the locker rooms of POW but the wrestling society throughout Kansas City digging up the history on wrestler after wrestler. Soon it was inevitable the person whom had the credibility but also the skills for the task and alliance with my client, that such man was the former tag team champions from many a company, Reck Maverick.
People laughed in our face thinking that the alliance of a legions soldier and Atomic Ninja was a comedic match, perhaps it is, but I can vouch that it will be the same comedic team of men that will claim the victory over any other in the POW. Coming up to All In men thought that the team of Macros and Maverick would fall apart before they even reach a tag team match, actually scheduled to compete against one anther for the chance to become Valor Champion. Well that match has come and gone with my client hitting Maverick with the Roman Salute and doing what many before him could not do here in the POW and pin the Atomic Ninjas shoulders to the canvas for a lengthy 1...2...3
Riley motions the count as he says the three numbers connected to the world of wrestling.
Riley: But the outcome of the match has not diminished the pride or valor in the heart of Reck Maverick, nor has it destroyed what is the team of Macros and Maverick. That right we're still alive and kicking, Macros and Maverick, M & M thats who we are and to the dismay of many we are still in contention for tag team championship gold.
Greg Kilgreen: Actually the team, as you called them M & M, are scheduled for their first tag team match at this weeks Road to All In card against the combined team of George Duke and Jason Dread. A tough task for your first tag team match?
Riley buries his hands into the depths of his trouser pockets, sticking his chest out he answers the interviewer.
Riley: I shall agree it would be a tough task to come up against the team of Duke and Dread on any card, but it so happens that my clients has not only his skills to work with this week but those of the multiple time tag team champion Reck Maverick. The combination of Macros and Maverick is not one that ya can overcome so easily, not even the newcomer Jason Dread or POW Valor Champion George Duke can dream to get a victory over these two. It just aint going to happen. Ya see Greg, this weeks tag team match is not just another match on the card. This weeks tag team match marks the creation of the team which shall rise to greatness in the POW. This match shall give all the POW fans that have been craving for it the taste of the future of our promotion, and that future goes by the name of Macros and Maverick.
This week ya going to witness tag team action like never before. High flying, submission, technical, powerful, brutal...crowd pleasing!!! These are just the icing on the cake, the words which will be flowing around the Ameristar Casino once the team of Macros and Maverick are through and done at the Road to All In.
Oh and don't think I have forgotten Duke, for we all know that my client Macros Vitruvious is now the number one contender for your POW Valor Championship at the DVD Taping All In. So let this weeks tag team match be a lesson for ya Duke, your first introduction to my undefeated Legion Soldier...Appius Macros Vitruvious!!!
Riley smiles into the camera, that shell of confidence surrounds both his manner and appearance. He nods to his client and their sponsors and the team of four men make their way back into the heart of the Arthur Bryant's restaurant.
