Mid-Monday morning, Power On Wrestling Television Title number-one contender Kaleb Shadix had recently risen from a snooze, and had made his way to the Ameristar Casino’s Star Pavilion -- the exact location he will be vying for the Television Title in about forty-eight hours. Clad in dark blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and white sneakers as well, Kaleb made his way down one of the corridors in the backstage area of the pavilion. Not fully awake, he wiped his eyes with his right hand and let out a yawn, followed by a groan. Suddenly, from around the corner came Greg Kilgreen -- microphone in hand and all.
(GREG KILGREEN)
Hey, Shadix!
Kaleb cocked his head to the side and glanced behind him as he heard somebody shout his name. Lo and behold, Greg came dashing towards him. Kaleb now turned fully around and glared at Kilgreen.
(GREG KILGREEN)
Wouldn’t happen to be up for an inter--
He was cut off.
(KALEB SHADIX)
Who the f**k are you?
Greg was taken by surprise, figuring Kaleb would know who he is by now.
(GREG KILGREEN)
Greg Kilgreen, POW Interview--
Again, Kilgreen is cut off.
(KALEB SHADIX)
Yeah, yeah, that’s great. So what the hell do you want, an autograph? You better have some money, because that shit isn’t free.
(GREG KILGREEN)
Uh, actually I was wondering if you were up for an interview.
Kaleb looked at Kilgreen quizzically.
(KALEB SHADIX)
An interview huh!? Ha! What happened to the good old days where you fans simply asked for autographs? Now you people want to waste our time with interviews? Fine, I’ll do it, but you better be dishing out some MAJOR dough!
Greg rolled his eyes.
(GREG KILGREEN)
Dude! I’m POW’s resident interviewer! It’s my job to do this. If you wouldn’t have cut me off you’d know this by now.
(KALEB SHADIX)
Oh…
Shadix stood there feeling stupid, but he simply shrugged it off and looked at Kilgreen.
(KALEB SHADIX)
So… guess we should get to the interview now? And how long will it take?
(GREG KILGREEN)
Who knows. Depends how much we delve into. Doesn’t really matter though, right? Doesn’t seem like you’re doing anything.
(KALEB SHADIX)
Hmm, guess not.
Kaleb placed his hand on his abdomen.
(KALEB SHADIX)
I am pretty damn hungry though, so let’s get this shit rolling.
Greg raised the microphone that he had been holding to his mouth as he gazed into the camera’s lens.
(GREG KILGREEN)
So, Greg Kilgreen here with the number-one contender to Black’s Television Championship. Congrats on the opportunity, by the way.
(KALEB SHADIX)
Yeah, thanks. Was there really any doubt, though? I mean, all I had to do was get through Shadow. It was easy the first time, and even easier the second time around.
(GREG KILGREEN)
Let’s not take anything away from Shadow here. He’s proved he is a force to be reckoned with. Remember the gauntlet match two weeks back? He went through four consecutive people before ultimately falling to you.
(KALEB SHADIX)
Oh come on, he beat a bunch of nobodies and then fell to yours truly, the diamond in the rough. I’m the real force to be reckoned with around here. Shadow can hide in dark alleys and wear entirely black clothing, but he’s still as menacing as a God damn second grader. By the way, I heard what you had to say earlier, Shadow. Watch my back, huh? Don’t make me laugh, fool. You don’t have the balls to step up to me again because you know I’ll do exactly what I did to you the first two times we fought. Once I when the Television Title, I dare you to come and try to pry it from my cold dead hands. I let you continue breathing after the past two matches we’ve had, but if you actually do grow the balls to face me again and there does end up being a third encounter? Your career -- and probably life -- will be over, kid.
(GREG KILGREEN)
Strong words, eh? Daring, at that. So you’re really confident in winning the Television Title, aren’t you?
(KALEB SHADIX)
Damn right I do. That title is as good as mine.
(GREG KILGREEN)
Well, I certainly wouldn’t go that far. I mean, look at who you’re forced to go through in order to win that grand title. You’ve got the Television Champion himself, the “Master of Mean”, Black!
Kaleb smirks.
(KALEB SHADIX)
Yeah, I know. What’s your point?
(GREG KILGREEN)
He’s… he’s…
(KALEB SHADIX)
A big ass mother f**ker. He’s mean, he’s bad, he’s ruthless.
(GREG KILGREEN)
And in singles competition he’s still undefeated. Add in the fact that his title will be on the line, this is a scary situation for you.
(KALEB SHADIX)
Heh, yeah, I’ll admit that it is. I’d be considered one of the biggest liars in the world if I said that the guy doesn’t worry me at all. Black is one of those dudes that you DON’T want to run into out on the streets.
(GREG KILGREEN)
And yet you’re forced to go head to head against him in the ring!
(KALEB SHADIX)
Shut up Greg, you’re not making matters better here.
Kaleb clasps his hands and rubs them together.
(KALEB SHADIX)
But you know what? I’m welcoming his challenge. I’m looking forward to going toe to toe with this big, black, bad dude. We’re both undefeated in singles competition, we’re both cold-blooded and callous, and incredibly merciless to fully achieve our ambitions. If I’m able to beat Black then this shit will put my ass on the map! Sure, beating Shadow is impressive since everyone hypes him up as some indestructible monster, but let’s be real here. Shadow ain’t shit compared to Black.
(GREG KILGREEN)
Which is why I think you should think this through a bit more. Black won’t hesitate to break you in half.
(KALEB SHADIX)
What exactly do I have to think through? I know what I’m going against. But you’re making it seem like I have NO chance of winning. Black isn’t indestructible or unbeatable just like Shadow wasn’t. Somehow, some way, I am going to walk out of this weeks Road to Spring Breakage as the brand new Television Champion while Black joins Lance Erickson as a disappointment not even being able to successfully defend his title even once.
Kaleb motions around his waist that the title will soon be there instead of around Black’s.
(KALEB SHADIX)
Black may be bigger than me, he may be much stronger than me, and he may even have that goofy looking little Asian sidekick of his by his side, but I will find a way to win. How? Ha, you’ll just have to wait and see. All I can say is that my methods are shocking, to say the least. Remember how I tied Shadow up outside the ring so he’d get counted out. That is pure gold -- a devious plot by a true mastermind. You can’t always rely on brawn to get you places; sometimes you’ve got to incorporate a bit of intelligence.
Shadix grabs the microphone Greg is holding and brings it closer to his mouth, which pulls Greg closer as well who still has his hands wrapped on it.
(KALEB SHADIX)
Black won’t hesitate to break me in half, right? Well, I won’t hesitate to do the same to him. I could end up killing him inside that ring and I wouldn’t feel any regret or remorse whatsoever. I am fueled by greed; I will do anything and everything, whatever it takes, to become a huge success. End peoples careers? Fine. Stab people in the back? No problem. I will become the biggest God damn success story POW has ever seen by any means necessary. For now it’s the Television Title. Next it could be the Valor Title, the Heavyweight Title, or even the world!
(GREG KILGREEN)
You’re getting ahead of yourself.
(KALEB SHADIX)
No matter how many interviews I have to cut, no matter how many autographs and pictures I have to do, no matter how many idiots I have to go through, I will make it to the top. This week, Black stands in my way of getting to where I want to be, and obtaining what I want in my possession. He’s certainly a much bigger and sturdier wall than what Shadow was, but I’m the wrecking ball that will be able to get through anything I am forced to. Black won’t break me in half, it’ll be the other way around. I’ll embarrass and annihilate that fat f**ker. I’ll destroy him within an inch of his life, laugh in his face about it, and then call his own f**king mother to tell her about it! And you know what? I’ll love each and every second of it. You thought Black was mean? You thought he was ruthless? Brutal, cruel, vicious? You haven’t seen anything yet!
With a psychotic look in his eyes, Kaleb releases his grip on Greg’s hands and gives him a light shove back. Shadix then turns and storms off down the corridor as Greg remains there overwhelmed by Kaleb’s expressed thoughts. He runs his hand along his forehead and says “phew”.
(GREG KILGREEN)
This is DEFINITELY going to be a good one, ladies and gentlemen!
Greg then nods towards the camera and walks off in the opposite direction that Kaleb did. The scene then fades away.
(GREG KILGREEN)
Hey, Shadix!
