The scene opens in a Buffalo Wild Wings resturant in Saint Louis. JTN is sitting with Brad Armstrong, Jason Lee, Kelly Lite, a two unknown young ladies. JTN has a beer in hand and the group is sharing a laugh at something Lee said. JTN raises his hands to quiet everyone down. And the five others slowly stop laughing and listen to what the obvious head of the table has to say.
Jay: I would like to say thank you to you all for joining me in my precomeback night celebration. Wish it could have been an actual bar but these young-uns aren't of age.
JTN winks to Lee and Armstrong an the duo laugh as they raise their glasses of coke.
Jay: But seriously, I wish I could have gotten ahold of Shawn to come but hey can't get everyone. Now ladies and gentlemen, don't forget to enjoy the night cause it's all on me.
All: Here here!
Everyone at the table raises their drinks and takes a sip. JTN nods as the waitress comes to the table. Each person gives their food order and the waitress leaves to go put the order in. The six are making small talk until Lee speaks up.
Jason: Just wonder Jay, but what's it going to be like facing one of the few people who has beaten you before?
JTN laughs.
Jay: What do you think it's like? I'm a little worried cause Pickles tends to be one to bend the rules to get what he wants...just like him having to find this loophole to even get this shot. He lost to Shadix a couple times and decided to try and weasle his way in by facing me. He thinks he has the advantage with having beat me before but look at the facts.....since then a lot has happened. I've won numerous titles, I'm being inducted into the UWC Hall of Fame, Capaci and I were undefeated in UWL, now I finally think I can retire and I'm told I have no choice but to come back for one more match, but again there's a catch.
I have not only one match, but two matches. Because the fact remains while I have excelled over the last two to three years, Nick has flustered and flopped barely being able to stay in the middle tier. So I know I will be beating Pickles and advancing on to the second match. Some call it cockiness or arrogance but it's simply the way things will be. Not like warmup matches are the same thing, but I showed you two and all the students at the gym just how good I really am. I haven't lost a beat in my retirement.
Granted before I come back to help Capaci a couple months ago and what do I get? Brass knucks to the face and a 'Thanks for stopping by' from Capaci. Now his so-called tag team champions have basically disappeared. So I wasn't that long out of the game, but now I have double duty at one of my career making shows. An opportunity I can't let pass me by. Supermania is a staple show for JTN and it wouldn't quite be the same without me there winning a championship.
Kelly: Who do you think will pose a bigger threat or at least who would you rather face? Showtime or Shadix?
Jay: If I had a choice I'd say Shadix, he's proven why he is the champion and I guess it wouldn't be right if I wasn't facing him. But Showtime and I have unfinished business. He and Fire have been on my back almost everywhere I go. We've put on matches that will go down as some of the all time greatest, but when it boils down to it, I still am the Current Big Thing.
I said before I thought retirement would shed me of that moniker but Showtime knows that I'm still exactly everything he has hated for the last three years. Everything he couldn't conquer. If I recall correctly he has just one victory over me in all of the matches we had. Maybe it was luck, maybe he was the better man. But the history of the odds are in my favor. So if Showtime manages to get past Shadix I will be very impressed yet worried that I will be facing a whole new animal. A man that has evolved since our last encounter. But that's a big if. From what I can see Showtime has his hands full with the current POW Television Champion.
A man who has yet to be pinned or forced to submit. I title I once claimed. Over forty five matches. I think for Shadix to claim to be on par with one of the greats he has about forty or so matches left to be that. Showtime best be on top of his game to overcome just Shadix before he even thinks about coming for me.
Brad: So you're thinking Shadix and you are going to be the final Television title match?
Jay: Hell I'm not thinking it, I'm ninety nine percent sure of it. Shadix is easily one of the fastest rising POW stars. He has held that TV title longer than any other champion. Before him the longest reign was two weeks if I recall correctly. But he's still thinking he is gonna be the greatest ever. Even I don't make that claim about myself. The world is a huge place and there is always someone better.
In POW alone there are at least three champions better than Shadix. George Duke, JR Zevon, and of course my brother Shawn Stevens. Shadix needs to realize that. While he's good, he's got a long way to go before he's what I would call great. Even beating me would be one hell of a stamp on his career path. There's no doubt about that. Not to brag about myself but those who beat me tend to use it as a career marker.
Look at Pickles and Showtime, they're both still riding that they beat me, and that was years ago. It's the effect I have on those I'm in the ring with. Everyone rides my name because they know it's one of the greatest. Just like when people beat Capaci, FDCM, Eagles, Maverick, or even my brother Shawn Stevens. For those who don't know what it's like, beating the so called best is a major morale boost and gives anyone who does it major bragging rights for future title shots and main event slots.
JTN takes a sip of his beer as the waitress comes out with another round of drinks for everyone at the table.
Jay: My brother has made claim to being the show stealer of the night with his match against Dave Hunter. But Shadix makes a good point, he and I very well could tear the house down. And the saddest part, both of us have to make it through another man first. While that's almost a sure thing, getting through without injuries aren't. Who knows if either of us or both of us could even be at one hundred percent.
Showtime and Pickles like to do everything they can do TRY and win. They might make either one of us or even both of us weaker for the final match robbing the other of a true victory. Shit maybe even the two of them will get involved later on in the night, they both tend to be sore losers. Especially Pickles, he'll buy anything he can. Buying revenge is one of his favorite things to do.
But I honestly hope Shadix and I can put on the match of a lifetime because for a veteran and hall of famer like myself to face a fast rising star only leads to greatness. I did the exact same thing years ago with Flying Diamond Cutter Man, the veteran faced the rookie and the night I beat him was the night my career path was set. That moment destined me for greatness. Shadix may be in my shoes and now I am the equivilent of FDCM.
The waitress comes back this time with the trays of food for everyone, she starts passing it out but JTN hasn't finished yet.
Jay: Yet he thinks that he is some new thing. That I haven't faced anything like him before. He's greatly mistaken. Shadix is a rookie, a damn good one, but still a rookie. He says I've never experience anything like him before. He obviously hasn't done his homework because I've been through everything there can be. Ryan Helms was an undefeated rookie just like Shadix is, and I put a stop to him back in the day.
My own brother was even more arrogant that I ever was when he was UWL Heavyweight Champion, even after he lost the title he was still arrogant and thought he could beat both Capaci and I and even to this day I felt bad for having to teach him a lesson and beat my own brother, but it helped his career in the long run because look where he is now. Shadix is just like every other 'unbeatable' arrogant rookie I have ever come across in my long career. But the closest comparison is Shadix to me because he reminds me of myself all those years ago.
So be it if the two of us steal the show at Supermania. This one will be one for the record books if everything goes smoothly and without interference. So you five better be watching because you might just see one of the greatest non-main event matches if not one of the greatest overall matches ever. Now enjoy your food, we still have a long couple of days ahead of us.
The group begins to eat their food as the scene fades to black.
