It was mid afternoon as Kailus sat on the steps that lead to the Mark Price Arena. It wasn't long before the POW would host their next mega-event there, and the pressure of the World Heavyweight Championship match was taking it's toll, not just on Kailus, but Bailey and Isaac as well. The two had decided to give their friend some breathing space so he could get into the right mindset for the match.
Kailus Holmes: “Two days...”
He began softly, his hood not covering his face and his wild untameable hair free from hair ties and blowing gently onto his face, the wind caressing his skin.
Kailus Holmes: Two days are left until Power On Wrestling comes storming into the Mark Price Arena for their biggest event since SuperMania 3... Legedaria.”
This was not simply just another title for Kailus to add to his already impressive tally. After all, twenty nine may seem a bit excessive, but this title match was going to be one of the most important for him.
Earlier this year, Kailus had several attempts to make the tally rise, but due to politics and an evil one sided owner of the now defunct promotion, the American Wrestling Association, Kailus was forced to lose the first match, but as he finally got his one of one shot for the title against the champion, again politics played a vital role and having enough, he left.
In short, Kailus was bitter about not being able to have a title match that was fair and impartial.
In even shorter terms... Kailus had not won a World Heavyweight Championship this year. And it was driving him crazy.
Kailus Holmes: It was billed as the biggest World Heavyweight Championship match in POW's history. Bigger than Flying Diamond Cutter Man vs. JR Zevon. Even bigger than Flying Diamond Cutter Man vs. Tito Capaci. Kailus Holmes vs. Flying Diamond Cutter Man for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Kailus had set himself a personal record the moment he won his first World title back in 2000. That he would make it his mission to become a champion every single year, and even a small personal game to see how many times he could defend it.
Kailus Holmes: But yet... we have yet to hear from Flying Diamond Cutter Man himself. He's been eerily quiet since the Best of the Best tag team match last week. Unavailable for comment, not answering his phone calls and nobody... not even Jay T. Nitro, has heard from him.
Kailus sneered at the disappointment that had fallen upon POW's most prestigious champion. One that many seemed convinced that he would retain.
Kailus Holmes: I'm sure there's a logical explanation for this however.”
Kailus commented, pulling a small packet of Golden Virginia tobacco from his pocket, as well as a packet of green rizlas. He began constructing a man made cigarette as he continued talking. It is usually an easy task to do, second nature when you've done it enough times. You could even do it whilst talking and not even looking at it, but sometimes the task of construction is made even more difficult when the wind is blowing, and blowing it was. Flapping the rizla papers edges so hard that it nearly took away the small clump of tobacco that rested on top of it.
Kailus Holmes: Maybe Flying Diamond Cutter Man is stuck in traffic somewhere and is unable to speak to his fans. Maybe he's not feeling too well, and has had trouble getting out of bed or even forming a coherent sentence without sneezing, choking or vomiting. Maybe one of his Flying Diamond Cutter Whores have been taken ill and has been rushed to hospital and he's decided to go there to support them.
Lots of potential reasons for why the champion is not speaking out.
Kailus Holmes: Some may call reasons... but I call excuses. Because somehow I don't think that any of those excuses are the true reason why Flying Diamond Cutter Man is hiding under his rock. I think he's scared.
Finally finishing making his smoke, he places all the components back into his pocket and stands up, brushing his hair out of the way with his free hand.
Kailus Holmes: He's scared to come out and speak to his fans because he knows that at Legendaria, whatever he says will be what he says every single week. A load of bullshit. He's afraid to even speak out because when it comes to facing somebody like me... he knows that he's dealing with somebody that is completely alien to him.
Kailus didn't seem his usual self ever since he became the number one contender. When he was with the Four Horsemen, he seemed lost and isolated, even though he had three other superstars to watch his back, one of them being Flying Diamond Cutter Man. It was strange but to him, even though it seemed like his back was being watched, he didn't feel like part of the group, and try as he might to stick up for Reck Maverick, or for Big Ci, or even for Flying Diamond Cutter Man, that he was not appreciated. He wasn't given the time of day.
On paper, the stable looked unstoppable. You had the legendary Ninja in Reck Maverick, the holder of the flag for the straight and true. Then you had Britain's babyface, Big Ci. Combined with the World Champion and everybody's favourite womanizer, Cutter Man and one of the most dominant superstars in wrestling history in Holmes, it did look like a tight unit.
But in practice, things did not go so well. Kailus soon began to appear as the simple lackey, or to make matters look even worse, he began to realise that people didn't even see him as a Four Horsemen lackey, but rather a Flying Diamond Cutter Man's lackey To him, he was a lackey of a lackey, and that was something that didn't sit too well with the Voice of Reason. Call it monomaniacal, call it selfish, but when you're a superstar of such high caliber, why should you be content with being a lackey?
Kailus Holmes: I'm sure Tito Capaci was a difficult challenge, and I'm even sure he got an easy ride when it came to Flying Diamond Cutter Man. But since then... who has he really faced that he could call “stiff competition”?
He pulled a lighter from his pocket and covered it with his free hand, shielding the flame from the wind.
Kailus Holmes: Cutter knows that I am not the same person he first met several months ago. I'm not the same person who sticks up for people. I quickly realised that having an affinity for people was a weakness. And Kailus Holmes has no weaknesses. I didn't need the Four Horsemen, Cutter. Not like you. You needed them to get your spotlight back, but that didn't work did it? You lost your spotlight because the Four Horsemen and the Royal Flush took over, yet when you became a member of the Horsemen, your spotlight was still acquired by two territory title hugging losers.
He pulled the smoke from his mouth and smiled, pointing to the camera.
Kailus Holmes: But then, just a couple of weeks after the Horsemen disbanded, look what happens? You get your spotlight back, but it wasn't because Nitro gave you it back. No. You see, you can be placed in the main event picture as many times as you want, but only the people involved in the event can make it truly worth watching. The only people worth mentioning are the people who really deserved to be in that spot.
So you've got to ask yourself, Cutter. Was it really Tito Capaci's fault that you were not continuously in the main event picture... or was it simply because you didn't deserve to be there?
Standing at the entrance of the Mark Price Arena, Kailus rolls his sleeve up and checks the time. He then begins to march towards the parking lot's entrance.
Kailus Holmes: You've been getting an easy ride so far, Cutter. You know it. I know it, and now, because of your voluntary silence... all the guys in the back know it. And come Legendaria... all the people watching at home know it too.
Kailus chuckles to himself as he finally waits by the parking lot entrance. Seems kind of strange to be standing by a parking lot entrance if you have to pick up your car...
Kailus Holmes: The real reason you won't speak up... is because you know I'm better than you. So you don't want to embarrass yourself by pretending you're not. I guess you've found out the hard way these past couple of weeks, Cutter, that success takes a lot of effort, time and dedication. Something that you can't handle.
A car pulls up beside Kailus from inside the parking lot. The door opens and inside is none other than Bailey. She says nothing as Kailus leans half of his body into the vehicle. He stops. Taking a moment to look up, his cocky smile still beaming from ear to ear.
Kailus Holmes: So you can thank me when I've taken it off your hands.
He finishes speaking and pulls the rest of himself into the car, Bailey wastes little time and pulls away rather hastily, heading back to their hotel room to rest up before the big night...
