We begins this episode in what appears to be a wooded area... apparently the City Park (Editor Note: Mr. Narrator sucks at geography so just go with whatever he says.) It's pretty dark out... but it's a full moon so it's not THAT dark - we find the Hero of the story and his love interest walking along the stone pathway. Reid is describing the events of last weeks match up.
Reid Flanagan - So there I was battling No Remorse on my own... my partner John Anthony is sitting in the corner, clutching the bottom rope crying for his mother. Hatred and Rage filled the eyes of my opponents - 2 against 1... They weren't after a simple win - They wanted my blood Jayde.
Jayde - um-hum...
Reid Flanagan - Yes... They had the ref in their back pocket and a big ugly brute in their corner... But I wouldn't be denied! They brought a whirlwind of destruction but they couldn't touch me... I completely blew past their defense and totally whooped and humbled them!
Jayde smiles a little.
Jayde - Reck... I saw the match... You got your ass handed to you.
Reid hangs his head, scratches the back of his head and looks at her with a grin.
Reid Flanagan - But I did get the 1-2-3! I beat Kez in the middle of the ring! I beat the "Great" World Champion.
Jayde - Well that true, but a little credit has to go to Josh... If he hadn't showed up we would be having this date in the ICU.
Reid Flanagan - You really think a simple chair shot would be enough to put me out? The only reason Beag's was out there because he was once again trying to steal the spotlight... It's bad enough that Nitro gave him a title shot without him having to earn it but now Josh has to stick his nose in my business...
Jayde frowns a little and hooks her arm around Reid's pulling him beside her.
Jayde - Why are you so stubborn to admit that Josh has changed?
Reid stops and looks Jayde in the eyes.
Reid Flanagan - Kunoichi... I've known Josh longer then you... I know him better then pretty much anyone - he hasn't changed... He's putting on this heroic facade just make the wrestling fans cheer for him - feed his ego. People don't change...
Jayde - That's pretty damn hypocritical coming from you! You've changed - You not actually conceited enough to think your better then everyone else.
Reid closes his eyes for a moment... Those words cut him like a knife. He slowly opens his eyes again.
Reid Flanagan - Did I change overnight Jayde? No... It's been a struggle for me to change who I am... You of all else should know that. Do you think Josh could make the same change as me overnight that has taken me YEARS to overcome. I'm sorry... I didn't mean to freak out - I just don't trust him okay.
Jayde just slowly nods... Suddenly her eyes light up.
Jayde - Oh Reck! I totally forgot to tell you!
Reid tilts his head.
Reid Flanagan - Tell me what?
A smile grows across her face.
Jayde - I got a letter from the academy the other day... They finally issued me a code-name!
A smile comes over Reid as he grips her in a bear hug and spins her around in a small circle and puts her back down.
Reid Flanagan - Really! That awesome - What is it?!
Jayde - Kitsune.
Reid Flanagan - Whoa! That's a pretty high ranking codename... You must have REALLY impressed Sensei.
Jayde - Well the extra training you gave me really helped too... Speaking of which - I couldn't find your codename in the database... What was up with that.
Reid Flanagan - What "Maverick?" yeah, it's not a traditional codename... actually it's a running joke in the academy, I'm surprised I never told you about it. Okay, the thing was that I was the dark horse in my class... there was an odd number of students so I was usually training alone... plus I was the only white kid in the class so they tormented the hell out of me... It was like a fraternity but with swords and shurikens.
Plus I listened to rap music... which didn't blend well with the classical Japanese tunes that everyone listened to... So I played it to my advantage whenever we partnered up to practice Kung Fu I went off on my own and worked on my Hip-Hop Kido... They started calling me "Maverick" because I was always doing my own thing... Then one day Master Kiyoshi found out about my unique style... and damn he kicked the shit outta me... Then once I got healed he wanted to see this fighting style I was doing so we battled and...
Jayde - Uh-oh...
Reid Flanagan - Yeah... I got the shit kicked out of me again... but I ALMOST hit Sensei and I guess I impressed him because he told me later to keep on doing what I was doing... Hey, here's a nice spot... Wanna sit for a bit.
Reid indicates a big-ol' tree and Jayde looks at it, smiles and nods, they sit down on the grass, facing the moon, Jayde moves in close to Reid and he places an arm behind her neck and rests it on her far shoulder.
Reid Flanagan - Anyway... we get to graduation and unlike today's Academy they gave us the code-names right then and there. I walk up and bow to Master and he looks at me, and out to where the rest of the Ninja were sitting and tells them and me that he choose the name the others used to haze me as my Codename "Maverick" the place busted out laughing... Master gave then one look and they shutted up quick... He was serious, he codenamed me "Maverick" because I always didn't something different and unique.
Jayde - Wow, that's quite a story.
Reid nods his head and looks up at the moon.
Reid Flanagan - *Sigh* I gotta another match this week don't I?
Jayde - Yeah... another Tag match... You and Ci against Johnny and Buddy Johansson.
Reid Flanagan - Heh... leave it to Nitro and Morrison to try and reunite the Horsemen less then a week after I leave... I'm getting tired of all this pointless destruction Jayde... We should be fighting evil and saving the innocent instead of me getting the crap kicked out of me everyweek...
Jayde - I know... but we aren't bounty hunters... beating up bad guys doesn't pay the bills... This does.
Reid Flanagan - I guess... I just wish there was a point to all of this... a definitive line of Good and Evil... When I was battling The Flush or Kailus and Kyle I knew who was right and who was wrong... but with Buddy and John... That line doesn't exist - I mean what have those two done to make me want to defeat them in combat... They are innocent and I feel like I'm selling myself out by fighting them... I'm suppose to protect the innocent - not fight them.
Jayde - I know where you're coming from... it's the sadistic bastards running the place - they love to mess with our emotions - making friends face off and have bitter enemies team up... It's all a game to them. Besides... we both know you couldn't live without wrestling... I seen it in your eyes when we were Tag Team Champions and I see it your eyes every single week. You always want to face the best in the world and make every person who buys a ticket know that they just witnessed the greatest match they will ever ever see. You love to make people happy, and that's what all that is when you wrestle trying to make everyone happy regardless to whether it's 100 people or 60,000 People... You need the rush and the challenge.
Reid looks at Jayde and gives her a small kiss on the forehead.
Reid Flanagan - I hate that you know me so well... but...
Jayde - You love it at the same time.
Reid Flanagan - Exactly...
Jayde just smiles at the Hero of The Story.
Jayde - Do you know what I can't wait for?
Reid Flanagan - No... what?
Jayde - I can't wait until we get to go to New York! I've never been there... It's going to be so fun!
Reid Flanagan - I don't know... I'm getting a bad feeling about going to New York... Something isn't right, like a premonition or something.
Jayde - You shouldn't be so negative all the time... everything will be fine... We'll roll in, you'll kick ass and we'll paint the town red.
Reid smiles down at Jayde.
Reid Flanagan - You're right... I'm just paranoid - Things will be fine.
Jayde - Yeah... What time do you got?
Reid checks his watch.
Reid Flanagan - Hm... about quarter-to-seven.
Jayde - Isn't our diner reservation scheduled for 7?
Reid Flanagan - We'll go in a couple minutes... The restaurant isn't too far from here. I just want to sit here for a bit longer.
Jayde - Thank works for me...
Both of their attentions focus up to the full moon as the episode ends.
