Weekly Role Play #2
/*\ Cruising /*\[/u][/color]
John Anthony and Julia Sven sit quietly as he takes a rather sharp corner on the outskirts of Kansas City in his new Audi R8, courtesy of Calvin Ayre. The car grips the inside of the corner and turns smoothly as the g-forces add up and both occupants are forced to lean into the pressure of centripetal forces. The evening sun was bright, but not as warm now that autumn was nearing. John’s pair of Bolero shades gave him a charismatic demeanor, but his good looks obviously attributed this even further. Julia had the window down and was letting the air flow through her let-down hair. Dressed in normal attire, the two had decided to just go for a spin and escape the daily rituals of helping run a multi-million dollar business. It felt good.
Coming to a red light that put a halt to their moment of nirvana, John brought the car to an unfortunate halt.
Julia:
“Do you think the Great Britain expansion will ever happen John?”
John:
“It doesn’t matter. I put my entire stake into transferring to Great Britain the minute the Hunters announced it. I was going to be their Eastern Heavyweight Champion and help promote the expansion to build a new fan base. Not only are we still left in the dark on any potential developments regarding Great Britain, there won’t even be an Eastern Heavyweight Championship by then. My title is as good as obsolete, as is my status as champion. Next week at Reckless Abandon I won’t be defending my Eastern Heavyweight title and Reck Maverick won’t be defending his Midwest Heavyweight title. Both will cease to exist as the new National Champion is crowned. I have a chance to reach the highest peak in Power On Wrestling, but also the chance to fall into the ranks of those merely fighting for a chance at such glory. There is no in between. There is no middle ground. It’s all or nothing.”
Julia:
“Don’t be so melodramatic. The Great Britain expansion is just taking longer than expected, and with the losses of so many superstars lately, I don’t even think it’s a feasible business decision. Nitro needs the entire POW roster on the Midwest shows right now to keep up the buy rates and an expansion would only serve to lower profits for the time being. Now as far as Reckless Abandon, you may have a point, but your grim view of it is rather disheartening. You and Maverick have the chance to put on a show for the ages! A match that will eclipse the epic confrontation between you and JR Zevon, and in New York City no less!”
The light changed to green, and John decided the tires on the luxury sports car could survive a beating. Testing the car’s straight line acceleration, John quickly shifted through the gears as the engine roared its approval of being pushed to its limits. Julia clenched his hands to the seat and held tight as the digital speedometer crashed into the triple digits. John let go of the gas pedal and sat back as the car cruised gracefully down the long stretch of road towards the setting Kansas sun.
John:
“Speaking of New York, I look forward to returning to the northeast to make an appearance. “
Julia:
“The flight has already been scheduled and arrangements have been made, so the logistics are all accounted for.
John:
“All of this business talk is getting annoying. I have a better idea.”
Julia could see a cunning glare in John’s eyes despite the tinted shades. Even designer sunglasses couldn’t hide the aura that he emitted when as idea coursed through his veins. A small smirk crossed his face as the car continued drifting, slower and slower. After it came to a near crawl, Julia grew slightly agitated. John took steered the car into a small field beside the road just as the glorious ball of light in the sky touched the horizon.
Julia:
“And we’ve stopped why?”
John:
“Pregame celebration.”
Julia:
“Meaning?”
John:
“Tomorrow night I’m stepping into the ring with Big Ci, the Midwest Valor champion. He seems to think that he has more to offer than his videos of past matches suggest, and perhaps there’s a glimmer of truth to his self-encouragements. It’s going to be fun, and I’m going to treat both the match and Big Ci with respect, but I’d be lying to your face if I claimed I saw anything impressive in those tapes. Nothing intimidating, nothing groundbreaking. His little gang or whatever he was involved in may have been the best thing to ever happen to Midwest, but past victories do not account for anything when you’re standing across from a fresh face, a man you’ve never been to hell and back with. Equally so, he’s right in claiming that I can’t just rely on studying him. The past Big Ci may not be the Big Ci that steps into the ring tomorrow night. What’s important is that I know who I am, I know what my strategy is, and I know how I will approach this encounter. What he does is essentially his business.”
Julia:
“I thought you were tired of business talk.”
John:
“Touché.”
The sun’s rays slowly diminished as the horizon began to swallow it whole. John removed his shades and looked over at Julia. Such a beautiful woman she was. Better than any title, any trophy, or anything money could buy. The road beside them sat there… lonely and well aware of the fact that there likely wouldn’t be another vehicle to pass over its surface for a good while. This was a deserted area and being a road wasn’t exactly fun anyway. John leaned over and whispered softly into Julia’s ear.
John:
“May I kiss you?”
Julia:
“Why do you feel the need to ask first?”
John:
“Suspense. Build the intensity. It’s what I’m good at.”
Julia:
“But can you back up your words?”
John:
“I guess we’ll find out tomorrow night.”
John leaned away from Julia and acted like he was thinking about something else, and her expression changed to one of anger rather quickly.
Julia:
“You know I wasn’t talking about your wrestling match.”
John:
“Oh! Well in that case…”
The last of the sun’s rays vanished beneath the curtain of land ahead of them and was quickly replaced by the smooth glow of the moon. The stars began to slowly appear in the night sky. It was a perfect setting, both romantic and tranquil, but still adventurous.
The Audi’s spacious interior was put to good use.
