Josh Eagles blinks his eyes and looks around the poorly lit place that he stepped into to from the bright sun outside, his eyes roam over the familiar features, the bar, the black walls, the worn pool table, the bathroom signs, the neon beer signs, the stained red seats stretched around the building, the black and white tiled stage, the tinted DJ booth he spent such a long time in.
Josh stands a moment letting his eyes adjust to the dim light, take in the few people staggered around the bar, the few half named woman walking around on the floor, everything he can see he takes in and a smile draws across his face as old memories flush back to his head... a place where he could relax and concentrate.
Female Voice: Josh... Josh is that you? Oh my god, it's been what 4 or 5 years now? What are you doing here?
Josh Eagles: Hey Lara, how are you? I was just wondering if the big boss was around, I wanted to have a word with him.
Lara: Yeah he is upstairs in his office... ARE YOU COMING BACK TO WORK??
Josh Eagles: Something like that I guess you could say, mind if I go up?
Lara: Only if I am buying you a drink later?
Josh Eagles: You know I have never passed up a drink before and I won't start now.
Josh gives the bartender a wink and heads through a back door that leads into a kitchen and a set of stairs. He follows the stairs up to another door where he enters a brightly lit hallway, to his left a open room stands milling about with half naked woman, the change room... but that is not his desitination, he approaches a white door across the hall and knocks.
Male Voice: Come in.
Josh opens the door and steps into the office, sitting at a glass table looking at his computer is a well kept, little on the heavier side middle aged man sitting in a black leather chair. His hair looks a little ruffled like he was having a bad day or a lot of stress on his mind lately.
Male: Well if I be damned, Josh it is you! How have you been, come on have a seat. So are you pulling a Conroy looking for a place to work again?
Josh moves forward and removes a big bag of change from the other leather chair and sits down getting comftorable.
Josh Eagles: No, no big boss, nothing like that... I was just kinda hoping to stand in and MC tonight, I need away to relax and get my mind off things.
Big Boss: Stressed out? Well that isn't like you... I am gonna have to say this is the last place I ever thought I would see someone come to REDUCE their stress level!
Josh Eagles: That is why it is just a one night thing, I just want to you know entertain the way I used to!
Big Boss: I imagine you would... let me tell you something Josh, I am not a big wrestling fan but I have kept a few tabs on what you have done since you left here and you know, you really changed after you left here. I remember the guy you were when you first started, a little timid but not shy willing to do anything for anyone and always worrying about everyone but yourself.
You remember that time you got a beer bottle broken over your head protecting one of the girls, you saw it flying and just pushed her to the side and took it in yourself, I have never seen so much blood. But by the time we got over there you were already on your feet making sure she was ok and that she didn't get hurt and then you left... and it was like everything changed.
Josh Eagles: I know... I don't know what happened I really don't but I got out there and my whole attitude just, it changed and i have been miserable ever since and now I am just starting to turn everything around.
Big Boss: Well that is good to hear! I heard you were starting to come around to your old ways, but lets talk about happier things... how is Jeska doing?
Josh Eagles: To be honest I don't know!
Big Boss: WHAT!? How can you not know about your own wife man? You were madly in love you two, what's going on?
Josh Eagles: We are not really talking... a few weeks ago we lost our unborn son... with everything that was going on in my life, between us... that just put her over the edge and now she isn't talking to me. It is a big reason I have started to become the real me again... I feel like I may lose something that means the world to me and I can't do that. Jeska, Reck, my friends, my family, and fans... I feel them all drifting away and I nee to keep them, to get them back.
Big Boss: That is really too bad Josh. You know you have always been a good guy, sometimes it never seems like it but your heart has always been in the right place and if you keep it up you will do fine, I have worked with a lot of people and I don't think I have ever met anyone with a heart as big as yours.
Josh Eagles: Thanks, that means a lot.
Big Boss: Well take it as payment for tonight cause I am not paying you a damn nickel... but you are more then welcome to work we got some new guy in tonight, I don't really like him but we got nobody else so you can be his MC.
Josh Eagles: Thanks it will do me good to get my mind outta my match for a while and outta my life... to just relax.
Big Boss: This isn't to help get your mind out, but to help getting it back in!
Josh Eagles: I am afraid I don't follow you?
Big Boss: It's simple... you want to prove that you are the man you used to be and you want the fans back... well it's time to be about the people tonight, take a step back to the basics and get some people laughing, get some people into it... show the guys and gals in here tonight that you are a different person. That will go a long way to getting you into the match.
It is just like I used to tell you, when you pick up that mic nothing in the world matters but the people you are paid to entertain, those people become your life and things outside of that can't interfere with it. It will be the same when you step into that ring next... only your opponents should matter, them and the people around the ring, not your life, your emotion, or anything else but the match!
Josh Eagles: Emotion is a big part of it!
Big Boss: Emotion in the match is, not emotion from life. Of course you need to bring emotion to the ring or else the fans won't be behind you, you will have no fuel to drive on. But in all honesty does losing Jeska help you in the match, thinking about it I mean? Does the crap I heard Reck Maverick is going through, the dis trust, the loss of his girlfriend, does that play into your match at all.
None of that should because a true competitor a true champion needs to be about the people, that belt needs to mean everything to you because it needs to represent what you are and what you mean to the people. A champion can not afford time to be selfish, he needs to be all about the people or they are not a true champion are they?
Josh Eagles: Nothey aren't... the belt is about the people and when you are wearing that belt they are your life... and I am prepared to make that sacrifice!
Big Boss: Wellif you are prepared to make such a sacrifice and make that belt your life and these people your priority then in my opinion you are one step closer then the rest of the people in this match and that gives you the edge... it's up to you to use it. Now get downstairs and get to work, I got things to do.
Joshlaughs and gets up from the chair heading downstairs toward the booth thinking about what he and his old boss discussed. He reaches the DJ booth and exchanges a few unheard words with the DJ and exits the booth with a mic in his hands.
Heis right... I have to make the sacrifice and I am ready to make that exact sacrifice, mind body and soul to the people, I just need to prove it now.
Josh raises the mic to his mouth.
Josh Eagles: Alright ladies and gentleman I want to hear you get those hands moving out there make some noise, show a little bit of love and appretiation this sexy little lady is coming at you with round one out there, this is your sweet little taste of CANDY!!!
