The camera turns on as you can see Keiji Inoki in his locker room. There are scrolls of ancient martial arts techniques and stances hung on the wall and behind him a massive Japanese flag. Keiji is burning incense and meditating. He is sitting on a bamboo mat. He wears a loose blue robe with his ring attire on underneath. He breathes in capturing the air in his belly then to his ribs and chest. He exhales through the mouth funneling the air out of his body. He takes all of his exercises very serious. His rate of breath will play a key part in conserving his energy in his match. If he shows that he is tired or panting his enemy will strike. Keiji must not give his opponent that chance. He must master the control of his body and spirit. When the body is in key with the spirit it is almost as if you flow in the ring, techniques become flawless and moves become art. He opens his eyes.
This marks the beginning of my path in POW. In my debut match i will be against two men. Will Fly and Spike Lambert. I wish this match to be a friendly competition for the chance to face off against the POW Television Championship. However i fear that my enemies will not respect each other nor follow a code of honor.
A scrawny looking Japanese man comes into his locker room. He bows to Keji. Keiji also bows back to the man.
Your tea Mister Inoki.
The man sets down a tea cup and hot water with some tea leaves. He gets up and leaves.
Keji pours the hot liquid into the cup and mixes in the fine Japanese tea leaves.
As i said before. My opponents do not know the path of the Honorable Warrior. Self discipline and respect leads to a greater understanding of combat. You must not harm you body. It is not a weapon nor tool. It is what harbors the spirit and soul of a being. The constant harm of the body through harm to it also damages the spirit, for that is its home. The mental conditioning of a great fighter is also a key to success.
Keiji stirs the contents in the tea cup and removes the leaves. He hold the cup up to his mouth and inhales. Feeding his spirit with the warmth of the tea. Now he takes a sip. The hot liquid funnels down his body. Invigorating the muscles and joints. The liquid drips down his esophagus into his stomach. As his esophagus and stomach remind his of the tea and its positive effect on his body.
All of a sudden three knocks are heard from his door. Keiji turns his attention away from the tea and towards the door.
Mister Inoki are you there? It is I Yoshiko.
Ah. I have been expecting you. Come in.
A man enters the room with a microphone. It appears as if he is an independent interviewer that Keiji has hired. The man takes off his shoes at the door and sits down an a small pillow on the floor.
Mister Inoki it is good to finally meet you.
Likewise. Please let us start the interview.
The interviewer sets up his own camera. He works for a Japanese TV station.
Now reporting from America. Yoshiko Hitori. I am here with renowned martial artist Keiji Inoki. Who has recently traveled to America to test his skill in the wrestling federation Power on Wrestling. For you martial artists and fans of Keji he needs no introduction however if you are not a fan of the martial arts Keiji has won many worldwide martial arts contests. So Keiji i must imagine the anticipation is incredible for you first match. How do you combat the nervousness?
I must not show any nervousness. My opponents will pick up on that. I am not anxious to start the match. I shall not rush to it. I must prepare. The match will come to me not me to it.
What are your practice routines?
On a normal practice day it is Tae Kwon Do to body motion revived and awoken. Then i move to meditation to awaken the spirit. After that i do Hatha Yoga to make my body and spirit balance with each other. Then i turn to more physically demading practices such as jujitsu and kung fu. My main focus however is jujitsu because it is the most helpful in the wrestling ring.
All right Mister Inoki it looks like the time is running out on this interview. Thank you for your time and do you have one last thing to say to all of your fans.
Respect and self discipline are the keys to greatness
