DVD Taping Role Play #5
/*\ Against the Wall --- Part 5 /*\
John Anthony sits behind his desk within his 39th floor suite at the Bolero Hotel. His flight scheduled for Ocean City, Maryland is already prepared to take off, but priorities first. He sits, laid back slightly, in his suede chair as a lone camera stands on a tripod in front of him. Daniel stands behind it, cueing him to prepare. John looks down at the oak desk before him, his Eastern Heavyweight Championship strewn across it. It was so much more than a trophy. This belt stood as a symbol of greatness, a treasure that brought fame and fortune to whomever held it. Defending such was not just some mere responsibility, it was an honor. The golden name plate on the base of the belt read his name is bold letters: John Anthony. From the very beginning when he debuted at the Road to Big Bang in April and defeated Jack Greaves, John had his eyes on the highest prize. Seeing it as a dream, he took every match as it came, never expecting to reach such great heights. But now as he found himself seated before the championship belt, dressed in a buttoned down blue shirt and jeans, he realized he now stood on top of the mountain. Everything he sought to capture, he now held. The true test was now at hand; defending such against a man who had lost as much as John Anthony had gained, and in a truly unforgiving setting.
Daniel signaled that the camera was ready, and flipped a switch to begin recording. No backdrops, no videos, just John Anthony and the Eastern Heavyweight Title. John spoke in a slow, but powerful tone while looking directly into the camera.
John:
“Ladies and gentlemen, fans of John Anthony, fans of JR Zevon, fans of professional wrestling. We are 48 hours from a match that will decide many things. Am I truly deserving of being your Eastern Heavyweight Champion? Do I deserve to carry this very belt around my waist into the ring when I stand before you all? Am I a fraud, here only to be a temporary place holder before JR Zevon reclaims what may rightfully be his? This cannot be decided through politics, interviews, press conferences, or a vote of popularity. Our rivalry has risen to a point where even a standard match within that squared circle cannot answer the questions on my mind. No, this Sunday, questions will be answered boldly in a match sanctioned by Tony Hunter to show that in order to be called the best in this company, you must sacrifice for it. You must be willing to travel into the pits of hell to retrieve your prize, and then carry it defiantly back with you.
Sunday, at Ocean City Slam, JR Zevon and I meet for what will not be the first time, and what will not be the last time. The past months have led both of us down individual paths that we both knew would cross. Our first true collision at Red, White, and Bruised was nothing more than a precursor to what you will witness this Sunday. I’m not seeking to destroy the career of JR Zevon. I’m not going out there to defile him, to dishonor him, or to make a mockery out of this title. My goal this Sunday is to defend what I’ve gained. To grip onto it and squeeze it until my hands bleed. Fighting Zevon within the confines of a steel cage will prove to be the most harrowing experience of my life, one that will bring both of us to our limits, but it is only at the end of the rope when a true champion can emerge. When two men have given all that they have and must dig into the deepest pits of their inner being simply to pull themselves off the mat, the winner is decided by more than character, class, money, social status, or past accomplishments. It comes down to who wants it more. Who is more willing to go that one extra step beyond their opponent? Who is willing to pull himself to his feet and declare himself to be the true Heavyweight Champion of POW: Northeast?
A new chapter in the saga of John Anthony versus JR Zevon is about to be written.”
