Weekly Role Play #2
/*\ Welcome to the High Life /*\
The fans sat anxiously at the IWA Midsouth house show that was taking place in Braxton, Illinois. The small gymnasium was host to around a hundred and fifty fans tonight as two regulars to the indy fed worked their magic within the ring. When the match was called to a close, the fans grew quiet. The main event tonight had been announced as IWA-MS fan favorite Drake Younger in an exhibition match against POW: New England’s Eastern Heavyweight Champion John Anthony. The lights in the gymnasium went dark.
“For a limited time baby.”
Two purple spotlights began shining on the entranceway as Timbaland’s “The Way I Are” remix began playing over the PA system. As the rock band Nephew began playing in the background of the remixed track, a cascade of strobe lights began flickering around the entrance. The fans were confused expecting to hear either John Anthony or Drake Younger’s theme. As the guitar riffs hit alongside with the chorus, a man emerged from the entrance curtain.
The two purple spotlights shone around him as the fans tried to get a glimpse of who he was. The man was completely pimped out, complete with button-up designer shirt with the top two buttons undone, Versace jeans torn in strategic places to look more fashionable, and a pair of Bolero shades. His short, brown hair seemed a bit ruffled and a rope necklace adorned his neck. As he stood in the entrance, a scantily clad woman emerged holding a championship belt and draped it over the man’s shoulder. He patted the belt and smiled as the purple spotlights began twirling to the tune of the theme song. The man strutted down to the ring and walked up the stairs, holding the rope down for his accomplice to enter. The woman in question was absolutely breathtaking, her straight hair flowing down her bare back, her body radiating brilliance as she pranced around the four corners as the lighting returned to normal.
“Ladies and gentlemen… welcome to the High Life!”
The crowd recognized the voice, they recognized the belt, and when John Anthony removed the shades, they recognized the face.
“Didn’t recognize me at first, did you? Yes, I’ve set the business suit off to the side and loosened up a bit. And in case you somehow didn’t notice, I’ve gained something else.”
John looked over at the promiscuous female as she moved towards him. He wrapped an arm around her as she dipped backwards and then flung forward mere inches from his face. John released his grip and returned his attention to the crowd.
“See, Julia and I came to an understanding. We worked out our kinks and decided we needed to just enjoy life more. Let what happened at Red, White, and Bruised simply be a memory. I was hesitant to forgive her and move on, believe me, but she had her ways of… persuading me.”
The crowd was still in slight disbelief at what they were seeing, but slowly began warming up to John’s new look.
“Now I made a few promises before becoming champion, and those won’t change. I’m not a different person and I’m not going to come out here and start acting like an arrogant ass. I’m still the humble John Anthony at heart, the man who started at the bottom of the barrel and fought his way tooth and nail to this position. I just figured I’d enjoy it now that I’m here! While I’ve gained a promotion, a championship, and this sexy little vixen, my opponents have fallen to pieces. JR Zevon is literally going insane somewhere in Philadelphia. The poor guy probably looks like he’s been through hell and smells like it too I’m sure. Macros hasn’t been seen since I defeated him after returning from my injury either, and no one even knows the story behind that. Mick Cormac proved to be an honorable opponent last Sunday, but I was able to handle him and have some fun with David Hunter at the same time. Now this weekend I face off with the debuting Dr. Phate. Well buddy, I hate to tell you this, but your welcome into POW: New England won’t exactly be warm. While I’m definitely more laid back now, when that bell rings I’m still the man of talent that stripped Zevon of his title.
Remember when I first came to POW and I said new guys come and go, but that I wanted to prove I had staying power? I think the recent releases of stars such as David Hilt, Eddie Buchalini, Mikey Badass, Enrique Alvarez, and Nick Wadden prove that I’ve got the ability needed to be a long term star. In fact, out of the eight other competitors in the Gutcheck Gauntlet match that I won, only one of them is still around! Yes, only Buddy Love remains from that crowd of ‘hopefuls’ and ‘future stars’ that I gave so much credit to, and he’s gone on to win the Mid-Atlantic Championship! Now we have “The Icon” Dr. Phate. What makes you any different? What makes you anything besides another person who heard about POW and thought they could prance in, win a few matches, and live the high life? Because it’s not going to happen that way. Your first match is going to be a loss, plain and simple. Now how you recover from it is yet to be seen, but if you’re even on the roster a month from now then I’ll be impressed.
Now, tonight I have a match with Drake Younger. That’s a man I respect right there. This guy fights in a multitude of promotions across America and has developed quite a name for himself. You fans are in for a treat as the two of us square off, but regardless of the outcome, the bigger treat goes to me later tonight.”
John glances over at Julia with a sly look in his eyes and she tries to look innocent and unknowing. Drake Younger’s theme music hits and John prepares to give the crowd their money’s worth just like any good businessman.
