Tick, Tock. Tick, Tock...
BUZZ!
An alarm clock rings as a startled Travis Brown jumps out of bed. He looks around at his hotel room. Another city, another match, another day in the life of "The Renegade". He cautiously walks over to his bathroom. As he begins to run water for a shower, he hears a knock at the door. He ignores it as he begins to undress. The knocking is continual until finally a voice is heard. It is that of a POW: New England staff member.
"Travis Brown?! Travis Brown, you were scheduled for an interview over an hour ago."
Travis Brown turns to his right and looks at the alarm clock. It is 10am. He thinks to himself. Did he oversleep? He must have. After a few more knocks, Travis walks over to the door and unlocks it. The staff member is a young man, probably no older than 20.
"Travis Brown, management is really upset with you. They said something along the lines of you being in hot water due to being a relative newcomer who thinks he can show up whenever he wants".
Travis Brown puts his head down. After a long night of drinking and partying, he must have a hangover. The room gets silent. Finally, he picks his head up and looks over at the man.
"Why don't you go get your camera crew and come up here? I have to get ready anyway."
"Alright, I'll let them know."
The man pulls out his phone as he begins to call someone.
"Okay, Brown is up and ready for an interview. He..."
He walks out of the hotel room and leaves the door half open. Travis walks back to the bathroom. He takes off his shirt and turns the faucet on. He looks at himself for a moment before splashing water on his face.
"I'm so hungry. I could eat anything you put in front of me. Heh."
A noise is heard in the hallway, it sounds like a stadium full of people. However, it is that young man again. He is with a camera man and interviewer. How can three people sound like thousands? It's called sports entertainment. Loud people, like Los Angeles. All of them are like this.
"Should I just set up here, Mac?" says the cameraman.
"Yeah. Right in front of the door." says the young man.
Travis looks over at the man, "Mac?"
"Yeah, that's me. I'm the producer. Chris Steele is my wrestling name, Jeff Mackenzie is my real name, and Mac is my nickname." he replies.
Mac and the cameraman begin to set up. The interviewer is texting someone, he is ignoring the set up and ignoring Travis Brown. The producer tells the Interviewer that they are about to start. He asks for confirmation from Travis. Travis gets into place, as does the interviewer. Mac counts down and we begin...
Interviewer:
Travis Brown, "The Renegade"- in only a few short hours, we begin the DVD taping for POW New England's next supershow, "Red, White and Bruised". To be such a new face here in the company and not only get on the card, but to be so high on the card AND be in the tournament finals for the Openweight championship...it must thrill you.
Travis Brown:
First off, monkey boy. You don't speak until Travis Brown is good enough and ready to speak to you. Did Mr. Brown say you can speak? Aw hell no he didn't! So, shut your face until Travis Brown says it's okay to flap your gums. You wanna know if T-Brown is thrilled, or excited to be climbing the ranks so quickly? Travis Brown is not excited, nor thrilled. When he came into this company, did he or did he not say that he was the POW:NE Openweight Champion? He did. Did he or did he not say that he was the hottest free agent that this business had to offer? He did. Did he or did he not say that he was going to step over everyone en route to becoming the best that this territory had to offer? He did. Now, why would T-Brown be surprised about something he predicted? Travis Brown is no Miss Cleo, but he sure as hell is the most entertaining thing on this roster...you may speak.
Interviewer:
Last week, in such a quick fashion, you defeated and destroyed Cody Barnett. That win, according to many people in this industry is your stepping stone. Like you said, you came in here and said you were the best and most dominant force that POW has ever seen and you proved it. Tonight, you go one on one with the President for the very title you claimed was yours all along. Your thoughts?
Travis Brown:
Much like Travis Brown said last week, he defeated that snot nose kid. Now, he has to get in the ring with the President. How did T-Brown phrase it last time? Was it...oh yeah. The President of the United States of Stupid. This guy thinks he's the leader of the free world? He's more like the leader of the third world. How in the hell did Tony Hunter, or was it Randal Lovejoy hire this goof? He makes Tom Cruise look like a model of how a person should act like. It's sickening.
Interviewer:
A lot of people are saying that if you do defeat the President tonight and win the Openweight title that you will be the number one guy people target on the New England side of things. There is already an eight man battle royal to crown the #1 contender for the Openweight Championship. If all eight of those guys decide at one point to challenge you, that would even be more challengers than any title in the entire POW has. How do you feel about that? Are you feeling a little uneasy?
Travis Brown:
You see, Mr. Brown knows that he will be THE guy over here. It comes with the territory. We've got our New England champion who defends his title against nobody and a Mid Atlantic champion who, according to some internet rumors- is almost out the door. So if I have eight guys gunning for me, that would make T-Brown's title the number one belt here. That is sure to piss some people off, but it doesn't matter. Unlike the Royal Flush/Horsemen feud over in the Midwest, every match Travis Brown has is going to be an instant classic.
Interviewer:
So what your saying is you welcome all challengers?
Travis Brown:
That is exactly what Travis Brown is saying. Mr. Brown don't care where you are, he'll defend his title against anyone. It doesn't matter if it's Rich Morrison, Shawn Stevens, Meltdown, The President or a space man from Mercury. Mr. Brown has and always been a fighting champion. Now, Travis Brown knows he didn't win the title yet. However, like he said from the start- that gold has been his since the second he signed the contract. There was never a point in time where it wasn't his. Hell, when New England was founded- before Mr. Brown even heard of it, that title belt was created for the eventual arrival of "The Renegade". It is now that he finally captures it officially and begins his quest. The Summer of 2007 is officially known now as... "The Summer of Travis Brown".
Interviewer:
Now, without saying, you are one of the most talented superstars to ever walk the halls of POW. However, were do you see yourself a few months down the road, or even better- a few years. This is your first DVD taping. Where do you see yourself in POW in the long run?
Travis Brown:
Travis Brown hopes that as long as POW is open and operating, Mr. Brown will be here in some capacity. In the short term, he hopes to be the first ever Openweight champion. In the long run, Mr. Brown wants to be the POW:NE Tag Team Champion, Mid-Atlantic Champion and Heavyweight Champion. He wants to be the "Grand Slam". He wants his name in the record books next to that of FDCM, Shawn Stevens, Rich Morrison and Reck Maverick. He wants to create the impact that this company needs. Travis Brown is the impact. Travis Brown is the future. Travis Brown is the only superstar in POW with direction.
Interviewer:
Something you mentioned that has a lot of people talking is that your the only POW Superstar with direction. Do you care to explain?
Travis Brown:
When Mr. Brown says that, he isn't lying. T-Brown sees other new superstars in the back pouting and crying about how their underused and aren't being utilized correctly. Travis Brown wants those people, and they know who they are- to sit back and shut up. You can only wait for a handout for so long. If the office isn't using you, use yourself. Make a statement, be different. What the hell do you think Travis Brown did. He could have sat and waited for the office to put him in line for a shot. But, he didn't. He walked in and demanded a shot. He demanded to be heard. The guys we have here in New England lack backbone. You wanna know why this company is looked at as the "B-Show"? You wanna know? It's because no one is stepping up and doing something different. No is being creative. No one is being innovative. Until that happens, you can let the Midwest shit all over you. Mr. Brown won't let that happen to him though. While everyone else is crying together in therapy- Mr. Brown is gonna climb the ladder and claim what is his. There is no stopping Mr. Brown!
Interviewer:
One last question before we leave you. Travis Brown, why do you always speak in the third person?
Travis Brown:
...Travis Brown doesn't know what your talking about. Now, get out of here before he kicks your ass!
Mac signals to the cameraman and interviewer that the interview is over. The interviewer shakes Travis Brown's hand and then runs out. The camera man is untangling wires and also begins to leave.
"You know, that was a great interview." Mac says to Travis.
"Thanks, it would have been better if I wasn't go tired."
"You should go and get some coffee. It will definitely wake you up. "
"Yeah, I'm gonna do that."
"Well, it was nice working with you. I'm a wrestler, but I'm on the injured list, so I'm working as a producer for the show. I'm probably gonna see you again, as well as tonight at the DVD taping."
"Sounds good."
They shake hands.
"I'll see you around."
Mac closes the door behind him as he leaves Travis Brown all alone. Travis looks around at his empty hotel room. The silence is noisy. He returns back to the bathroom and sees a protein bar sticking out of his gym bag. He opens it up and begins to eat it. He throws away the wrapper and begins to flex in front of the mirror.
"I need to hit the gym. I'll shower there."
He turns off the water, which has been running the entire time. So much for resource conservation. He puts his clothes on and opens his hotel door. He locks the door behind him. As he is about to walk out the front door, the lady behind the counter calls out to him.
"Travis Brown!"
"Yes, Ma'am?"
"I hate to bother you, but do you think you can sign this for my son?"
The woman pulls out the DVD Taping poster.
"Sure."
Travis signs the section where his picture is.
"Thank You!"
She hugs him and then runs off.
"Not a problem."
Travis sees his rental car. He opens the door and gets in. He closes the car door and starts the engine. He takes one looks back at the hotel and then drives off to the arena.
