Weekly Role Play #1
/*\ "B" Words /*\
Dear fans of POW: New England,
John Anthony here and I wanted to say thank you for making Red, White, and Bruised such a spectacular and unforgettable evening. I wish for nothing more than to stand before you all in the ring and hoist my new Eastern Heavyweight Title above my head, but that is easier said than done at the moment. As many of you know, Sunday night after my victory I proposed to one Julia Sven. My heartfelt proposal was however denied, leaving me on my knees before everyone in embarrassment and confusion. While I promise to make my appearance this Sunday during the main event, I feel it best to speak to my fans (and enemies) through this email for the time being. I’m going to cover a variety of topics which I’ve been receiving via emails, letters, and word-of-mouth since Sunday night. Coincidentally, all of these topics happen to begin with the letter “B”. Anyway, let’s begin:
Bodog
Yes, I did receive my promotion to President of Public Relations for the company I work for, Bodog Sports. This means no more odds making, no more researching stats and spreads on end to be the best bookie in America. I can now dedicate my time to my career as a professional wrestler, as a champion, and as the public face of Bodog Sports. Calvin Ayre was quick to call me and congratulate me on my victory and kept rambling about how “his investment in me paid off.” Well, I wanted to thank POW: New England for their investment in me, and I hope now it can pay off as well.
Boring?
While most of the comments I’ve heard since Sunday night were on a positive note, there have been a good share of fans that have approached me concerning my methods of victory Sunday night. One email I received lays it out rather well in my opinion:
John, I’ve been a fan of yours since your amazing victory in the Gut Check Gauntlet. Your
feud with JR Zevon boiled to an amazing level that would hopefully culminate at Red, White,
and Bruised Sunday. However, although you walked out of the arena with the belt, you left
many of your fans disappointed and disgruntled. After all of this talk about you bringing the
biggest fight ever seen to the fans Sunday, you resorted to a roll up after a mere few minutes?
Maybe you were off your game Sunday, or maybe you simply saw a quick opportunity for
victory, but I expected you to make more out of the situation and to entertain the fans giving
them the show they were promised.
These words speak truths, but allow me to explain. Looking back at my performance Sunday night, I wasn’t “off my game.” Now granted I had an immense amount of things on my mind, but first and foremost was putting on a memorable match for those in attendance. I never actually anticipated that a roll up would seal the deal so early in the match. Many wrestlers attempt such a thing early on as part of the “feeling out” process. It isn’t actually intended to work, more so to show their opponent that they mean business and that this match could turn at any minute. Now I’m not going to say I’m upset that it actually succeeded and I won the belt, but I do sympathize with both fans of myself and Zevon when they say they were not treated to what they felt they deserved. Therefore I’m hoping that this Sunday’s triple threat match proves to be a much more exciting affair and that the fans don’t find it to be boring or mediocre by any standards.
Ballroom
Concerning Tony Hunter’s announcement of POW: NE striking a deal with the Michaels Eighth Avenue Ballroom, I’m kind of 50-50 with it. On one hand it shows that POW: New England is indeed becoming a presence in the north east and that there are actually venues interested in investing into our continued growth. This is definitely a morale booster for many of the superstars and management I’m sure. However, it also limits out ability to travel to the fans and bring the show to their front steps. The “life on the road” aspect was hardly difficult considering we don’t travel nationwide and instead visit different locations in the northeast. Anyone who has kept up with my escapades of late knows that I’ve vastly enjoyed getting out there and meeting new people, whether they are citizens or even politicians of the area. Pep rallies, dinners with mayors, and public forums have all been part of the experience for me… a part that I will no doubt miss with the conclusion of this new deal.
Bloody Mess
Ok, maybe I stretched a little much for that subject title, but I have to mention the return of Mick Cormac. Now he and I bumped heads in the past, but I hold no ill-feelings towards the brawler. His leave of absence from POW: New England was noticed by many, but his explosive return was noticed by all. I’m sure most of all his return was noticed by Tony Hunter and his son. Now I can’t exactly commend Cormac for his actions against Tony Hunter in the middle of the ring, but it did set up an interesting scenario. A triple threat match that pits me against Zevon once again, this time with Cormac also in the ring. To make matters even more interesting, Tony’s son David will be the referee! Oh but wait, it gets A LOT better. And that brings us to our final topic of the night…
Betrayal
You’ve heard of saving the best for last, but I’m about to break the glass ceiling when it comes to that figure of speech. Last Sunday my perfect night ended on an extremely sour note when Julia Sven declined my marriage proposal. It’s the very reason I’m behind a keyboard tonight and not a camera or in front of a crowd. I was torn up that night and could think of nothing but her and asked myself “Why?” That question of why turned into a “Who is to blame” scenario very quickly. At first I blamed myself. Perhaps for proposing too early, for rushing such a critical decision, or maybe for even doing it in front of the crowds. Then I blamed JR Zevon. Maybe his harsh words of calling me a criminal and a disgrace to the world of professional wrestling affected Julia in some way. I doubt it. After much deliberation, I was still at square one. Until I found a certain photograph lying under a small pile of paperwork Julia had left in my suite before leaving Sunday night:
Now I could be wrong, but this cat bears a striking resemblance to David Hunter, son of Tony Hunter and special guest referee in my triple threat match this weekend. And what was this photograph paper clipped too? Well none other than a note written in sloppy handwriting and rather humorous spelling. Here, allow me to share just a brief snippet of its contents:
“I cant wait to see you again!!! Things are going good for me and i am exsited about
this saturday. I no its been stressful for you with work and keeping john out but it
will be worth it i promise. <3 you!”
… …
…
Yes, I’m expressing my disbelief and rage through ellipses.
This turn of events has made for a very interesting scenario. Now I see that I’ve been betrayed. The one I loved was with another, and it appears to be the son of the man I respect as my boss here at POW: New England. Now I don’t hold this against Tony, and I’ll even hold back from blaming David just yet. But let me send out a fair warning. If I find out that this has any truth behind it and that David Hunter is the reason Sunday night took a turn for the worse, then he’s in for quite a surprise. This Sunday’s triple threat match may very quickly turn into a fatal four way with himself involved. Actually, after seeing Mick Cormac’s actions and not knowing Zevon’s current state of mind, we could be looking at more of a 3v1 handicap slobber knocker where David Hunter is given more than enough reasons to keep his ass in retirement where he belongs.
I’ll leave you tonight on that note. Hopefully I covered everything that might be on the minds of those interested. I look forward to standing in the ring once again, this time with the Heavyweight gold around my waist. And remember, never settle for the outside story, always go for the inside scoop. You might just learn that things aren’t as they seem.
Your new Eastern Heavyweight Champion,
John Anthony
